KASE Care’s specialist team are experienced in offering the care and support that a service user living with cystic fibrosis needs to live an independent and fulfilling life.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition that affects over 10,000 people in the United Kingdom which, over time, its symptoms worsen – such as the build-up of mucus in the lungs and digestive system. This often means the service user has problems digesting food and is susceptible to lung infections.
Unfortunately, anyone with a cystic fibrosis diagnosis will have a shorter life expectancy due to how the condition deteriorates over time, but with the relevant treatment and care, the service user can live a healthier and longer life. The KASE Care team will be on hand to ensure the service user is given access to the medication they require, as well as working with them and the family to create a tailored care plan consisting of exercise, nutrition and physiotherapy.
As cystic fibrosis affects different people in different ways, we recognise the importance of creating a care plan around the individual needs of the service user. As part of this, our team can offer home visits and/or assisted living where necessary, as well as providing access to healthcare professionals who can provide essential treatments.
One in 25 people in the UK carries the gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the majority of whom do so unknowingly.
Commonly, cystic fibrosis is diagnosed during the new-born screening via a heel-prick test which all babies in the country have. Due to the high risk of passing on germs between each other, two people with cystic fibrosis can never meet face-to-face.
