Epilepsy affects different people differently – some more severely than others. While some may only require care services when they have had a seizure, which may be a rarity in itself, others will need more comprehensive care to keep them safe and well.

As part of our care services, our healthcare professionals will ensure that a service user is kept safe during a seizure, given first aid and/or emergency medication, stay with them following a seizure and accompany them to medical appointments. As part of our service, we will also discuss patterns and triggers for seizures with the service user, family and other medical professionals (such as by accompanying them to appointments).

Creating a Tailored Care Plan

Our team will work with both the service user and their family to create a tailored care plan which may include home care visits or assisted living services, providing transport and adapting their home to ensure it is a safe living environment. Depending on the severity of the condition, not all of these options may apply to the service user.

If the situation changes for any reason, our team of healthcare professionals will liaise with all parties before implementing any changes to the care plan, making sure that everyone involved is on the same page. Our services will also ensure that the service user will have access to Anti-Epileptic Drugs (AEDs), and our team will help to administer them where necessary.

Helping to Live an Independent Life

All service users want to live as independent a life as possible – no one wants to lose the ability to carry out everyday tasks. Our team works to ensure that service users benefit from having an independent and fulfilling life, and keeping them safe whilst doing so.

This means that our team may accompany the service user and join in with leisure activities that may pose a risk. For example, if a service user were to have a seizure while swimming in a pool, a healthcare professional familiar with their needs will be there with them to ensure they receive the care and attention they require.
