Caring for someone who suffers from respiratory conditions is a huge responsibility and requires the support of healthcare professionals to ensure the service user receives the relevant treatment as and when required

According to the NHS, as many as one in five people are affected by respiratory diseases which are the third biggest cause of death in England behind cancer and cardiovascular diseases. Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), lung cancer and pneumonia are the most common causes of deaths – with service users most at risk during the winter months when respiratory illnesses are at their most prevalent.

Asthma is another respiratory condition that requires constant care. Even if the asthma is not classified as severe, it must be managed to avoid complications further down the line. The KASE Care team can work with both the service user and family to manage the signs and symptoms of the condition, as well as helping to make healthy life choices to reduce the risk of complications.

Creating a Tailored Care Plan

The KASE Care specialist team will create a tailored care plan to suit the service user based on their age, personal situation and lifestyle to help manage the respiratory condition they are living with. This will be discussed with both the service user and family, and any changes made will be done so with their consent, ensuring all parties are on the same page.

As part of our care, we are also able to give access to healthcare professionals such as a respiratory therapist. This further helps to manage the service users’ condition by offering assessments that will help determine the best course of action required.

Life Choices

Most respiratory conditions can be managed by making healthy life choices, such as eating a balanced diet and keeping active. Being overweight increases the risk of serious complications due to the added strain this puts on the heart and lungs, on top of the respiratory illness.

The KASE Care team will work with the service user to create a nutrition and exercise plan, as well as helping to make other healthy choices through home care visits, as well as assisted living services where this may be required. We will also offer support to friends and family to help the service user manage respiratory conditions that they are living with.

Our respiratory conditions care plan includes:

  • Tailored care plan
  • Support for family
  • Home care visits and/or assisted living services where required
  • Access to healthcare professionals such as respiratory therapists
