Parkinson’s disease is a condition that worsens over time, with symptoms including slow movement, involuntary shaking and stiff and inflexible muscles. Although there is no cure for Parkinson’s disease, the KASE Care team will ensure that service users will receive treatment to help manage the condition.
Parkinson’s disease affects around one in 500 people, the majority of which begin to develop symptoms over the age of 50 (although one in 20 first experience associated symptoms under 40 years of age) and are male. The condition is a result of a loss of nerve cells in a part of the brain, the substantia nigra, leading to a reduction of dopamine.
Those living with Parkinson’s disease, particularly as the condition worsens, will require care and assistance as carrying out usual day-to-day tasks becomes increasingly difficult. This may require the need for home care visits or assisted living services, depending on the severity of the symptoms.
